With the release of Season 5, my episode of Miami Vice, "Miracle Man", finally came to DVD.

The Scene:

Ext: Day. A playground. Camera pans down to see a young drug dealer (yours truly, at age 18, still believing he's going to grow up to be James Dean) with a black afro & wearing a yellow tie muscle shirt; talking to some other Kid who isn't very important and has no lines.

Mickey Zetts (as the drug dealing, afro wearing kid)

Hey Kid. Check this out, and the price is right. We are talking some righteous crank. Really take you all the way up...

Suddenly a Hispanic man in a superhero outfit (& who on the day of shooting couldn't remember his one line) appears from around the corner...

Hispanic Superhero Dude

Up? You mean drugs?

Mickey Zetts (still portraying the drug dealing, afro wearing kid)

It's Miracle Man! Let's split!!

Mickey and the other kid (who's name got listed in the final credits whilst mine DID NOT) run off; leaving the Hispanic Superhero dazed and confused about his career choices.

This version is a slightly different mix than the Life Is A Dream version. The intro is shorter, their is more presence in the low end, and the ending is faded quite a bit early. Also, the sound of a gong is more present in verse three. (I don't remember us putting a gong in there, but ..there you go. Gong!)

For those who may stumble upon this and have no idea who the heck I am, this is the bio I've been using:

"Formerly of South Florida, Mickey Zetts began writing songs while attending Dillard School of the Performing Arts in Ft. Lauderdale. His first musical play, Say AH, Mrs. Forebusher was produced at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, and was the highest attended summer event in the University Center’s history. Luckily, the faculty and staff never bothered to check Mickey’s enrollment status since the school completely funded and produced the project without ever realizing that he didn’t actually attend school there. :P

His next show, APATHY-the Gen X Musical was the longest running late night show in the history of Florida Playwright's Theatre in Hollywood, Florida and actually elicited Jack Zinc, theatre critic for the Miami Herald, to label Mickey as a “harrowing, rabid nihilist!”
Of course, Mickey felt that was a compliment.

In late 1997, Mickey took a long break from the theatre and formed Mickey's Ickies (Originally Them Ickies). Known locally as a wacky-theatrically fun variety show, the alternative band Mickey's Ickies had a high-profile career, with recognition among MP3.com listeners (Mickey's Modern Irish Drinking Song was voted into the top 40) and winning the Baywatch Battle of the Bands competition in 1999. That year also saw the completion of the Ickies full length CD, Life is a Dream, and "The Curse Of the Bloodsucking Bimbo", which, many years later, has a cult following all it's own.

Since relocating to New York, Mickey revived Apathy as both a full production and a concert version for the 2005 Midtown International Theatre Festival and 2005 Spotlight On Theatre festivals, respectively. The show received a citation from Talkin' Broadway.com for Outstanding New Musical. Just this past year, he also received an award for Best Original Song for “Mr. Bitters’ Blues” at the 2006 Spotlight On Awards.
Earlier in 2007, Mickey teamed with Brad Fryman of the Oberon Theatre Ensemble to create a new rock n roll vision of William Shakespeare's The Merry Wives Of Windsor. Performed at Theare Row, right in the heart of Manhattan's theatre district, this production became Oberon's most financially successful show in it's 10 year history."

Ok, ok...so basically, I'm really just another poor starving schmo writing songs and being a musician in NYC.
We try to make those credits (see above) sound really hip and professional and all that kind of stuff, but the truth is: I still have dayjob to support "the dream" ...like most folks I know, actually.
Let's see, what else can I tell you...hmmm...

I'm currently writing music for the Holla Holla Production of 12th Night which opens August 4 at Clinton Cove Park. W. 55th Street & the Hudson River NYC (More info to come for that)

I'm also moonlighting these days; playing bass for the band Blue Lights In the Basement

Gladys Knight & The Pips version of "I Heard It Through The Grape Vine" kicks Marvin Gaye's (& not to mention CCR's) ass! :-P
